Braces First Aid
It is quite normal to experience some discomfort over the first few days after the placement of your braces. Mild pain relief medication will usually assist with this. If you are unsure of what to take, consult a pharmacist or your family doctor. Eating only soft foods for the first few days will also help. Braces are made to be quite smooth and rounded. Even so, the mouth is a sensitive area and it may feel a little irritated in some places until it adjusts to the new addition. We will provide you with some silicone wax to place over any of these places. The key is to thoroughly dry the spot you wish to apply it, to allow for the best adhesion. This wax can later be peeled off or removed by thorough tooth brushing. The wax should only be required for the first couple of weeks while your mouth adjusts to the braces, it can then be kept for an emergency situation - e.g. a broken wire or similar problem.
