Dr John R Owen AM

Dr John R Owen graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1977 and joined his father's general practice in Midland, Raymond Owen and Peter Gregory and Associates on Spring Park Road. That practice had been established in 1951 by his father and his grandfather, a jeweller turned dental technician, and it carried an excellent reputation in the district for decades.

In 1980 John moved to London, studying at the Royal College of Dental Surgeons and establishing a general dental practice in Finsbury Park. He returned to Perth to undertake his specialist training and Master's degree in Orthodontics from 1981 to 1984. Over the following thirty years he established two specialist orthodontic practices, in Midland and Mount Lawley. He remains the principal orthodontist and owner of Midland Orthodontists, supported by our associate orthodontists and a long-serving, highly experienced support team.

Clinically, John has a special interest in younger patients with facial growth and development problems, particularly children with disabilities and those affected by Indigenous health issues.

In early 2009 John and his wife Jan founded the Kimberley Dental Team, established as an ATO-approved not-for-profit in 2011. The team has now visited the remote Kimberley region of Western Australia more than twenty-five times, delivering over $1.5 million in free dental care through volunteer effort.
