Forsus springs

Fixed springs added to braces part-way through treatment to correct the bite when elastics alone are not enough.

About this treatment →

What are Forsus springs?

Forsus springs are special fixed appliances we fit to your braces approximately 6–10 months into braces treatment to help correct your bite. They are used in circumstances where elastic band wear is insufficient or if the bite is too severe to correct with elastics alone.

The Forsus springs are placed by your orthodontist and cannot be removed by the patient. They work to promote bite correction, reduce overbites and improve the fit of the top and bottom teeth.

What to expect

Forsus springs stay in position for a designated amount of time depending on your particular teeth.

You will need to take extra care while you have your Forsus springs in position. Avoid any hard/sticky foods, take care to eat gently, avoid opening your mouth too widely during eating and yawning and clean the springs carefully.

They may cause some initial discomfort of the teeth when first placed. The springs can also rub the inside of your cheek in the beginning but using wax and keeping your teeth clean will speed up how quickly you adapt.

Cost

Forsus springs incur an additional cost which will be outlined prior to your treatment.

Remember: please discuss any queries regarding your Forsus springs with your orthodontic team.
